Information -- Magic

When a Syon Dragon is born, it has magic embedded deep within it. As it grows, that magic begins to manifest itself and focus around one particular force of nature. Upon reaching maturity, the dragon declares the nature of its magic, which, up to that point, it has either kept to itself or told to its closest companions. The Declaration Ceremony is often conducted for a group of siblings, or 'clutch,' and it marks their passage into adulthood.

There are several ancient alignments of magic that have been named by the ancestors. All of the Syon's magic powers extend from these seven forces, listed below.

Terramagi - Earth Magic
These dragons have the strongest connection with 'nature;' things like forests and meadows. They often have powers to do with birth and life of plants or, sometimes, animals.
Spiramagi - Air Magic
These dragons have power over the wind and its currents. They develop powers that either create or change the flow of wind, and they are good flyers.
Ignimagi - Fire Magic
These dragons have power over flame. They have powers that involve creating or directing the actions of fire.
Rigomagi - Water Magic
These dragons have power over water. They often develop powers that have to do with creating water, or directing the flow of water already present.
Luxmagi - Light Magic
These dragons have powers to do with those things that are light, like daytime and sunlight. They may develop powers that create light or alter light already existing.
Tenemagi - Dark Magic
These dragons are most often those called by darkness or evil. Dark Magic, though it is not nessecarily 'evil,' is often looked poorly upon by the peaceful Syon. However, dragons that practice Tenemagi simply have control over darkness. They may develop powers that allow them to rid a place of light, or 'create darkness.'
Auramagi - Neutral Magic
These dragosn are basically blank slates. They can do whatever the hell they want, as long as it doesn't have anything to do with the other six alignments.

These are not the limit to a Syon's magical choices. There are many sub-categories to each and every one of these blanket terms; these sub-categories are formed when a Syon chooses to focus its magic on one certain aspect of their alignment, such as a rigomagi focusing on controlling the tides or an ignimagi concentating on taming smoke. These are named by adding a short prefix to the name for the blanket alignment; for example, a spiramagi who wanted to work with winds would call itself a 'nebu'spiramagi.'

Of course, some Syons may go beyond even these categories and realize that they have their own new magic. Each Syon is unique, though some may share magical callings, and it is quite possible that an individual Syon would find a new subcategory within one of the seven categories to practice.

At the Ceremony of Declaration, each Syon comes before its family and friends and announces what type of magic it feels most affiliated with. For most Syons, this knowledge comes with maturity, but, for some, it requires a bit of soul-searching.

Though most Syons are content to remain affiliated with one type of magic, some choose to continue their magical explorations and try to take on two elements, maybe more. This is much, much more of a challenge than finding their first element, because most Syons only have one dominant element, with the rest of their abilities buried within said element. Though most develop another subcategory of whatever type of magic they had before (for instance, a Frax'Ignimagi might also become a Fumo'Ignimagi) but the most powerful may be able to deveop magic of a completely different category (a vita'luxmagi also becoming a herba'terramagi).

Though magic has much more depth than described here, this is the basic information one raising a Syon would need to know. Someone raising a Syon will have to bring the Syon to its clutch's Ceremony of Declaration, and perhaps assist it in its elemental training.
